Corrimal’s post-war housing stock means we replace more old ceramic rewireable-fuse boards here than almost anywhere in the Illawarra. These boards use fuse wire instead of breakers, have no safety switches, and can’t protect anyone from a fatal shock. The fix is a modern switchboard upgrade with RCDs/RCBOs and labelled circuit breakers — and under the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules, replacing the board means a safety switch goes on every circuit, lights and power alike.

Alongside the boards, the wiring in many Corrimal homes is decades old, often with layers of additions and previous-owner DIY. We regularly find undersized circuits, dodgy joins, and not nearly enough power points for modern life. Corrimal has a solid share of rental homes, and NSW law requires rental properties to have safety-switch (RCD) protection on power circuits and working smoke alarms on every level. A lot of older Corrimal rentals don’t. We run electrical safety inspections for landlords and agents, fix what’s needed, and give you the documentation for your records.

Corrimal is close enough to the coast that salt air gets at outdoor meter boxes, power points and fittings, corroding terminations and enclosures over time. When we work outdoors here we use corrosion-rated enclosures and proper weatherproof fittings so the repair doesn’t rust out in a few summers.
