Established homes, ageing switchboards.
Much of Figtree’s housing stock is established brick and weatherboard family homes that have been added to over the decades. A common pattern is an original switchboard — sometimes still with ceramic rewireable fuses and no safety switches — now feeding a house full of modern loads it was never designed for. A switchboard upgrade with RCDs is the single biggest safety improvement most of these homes can make, and under the Wiring Rules a board replacement now puts a safety switch on every circuit.
Rewires and renovation wiring.
As Figtree’s older homes get renovated and extended, we’re regularly asked to add circuits, move and add power points, upgrade lighting, and bring tired wiring up to standard. Older cabling, mixed DIY work from previous owners, and undersized circuits all turn up here. We sort it properly — dedicated, RCD-protected circuits run from the board, not extra loads bodged onto whatever was nearest. See lighting and power.
Strong EV uptake on bigger blocks.
Figtree has the larger blocks and the household income that goes with steady EV uptake, so home EV charger installs are one of our most-requested jobs here. The catch is that a 7kW charger is a serious continuous load, and many older Figtree boards don’t have the spare capacity for it — so we check the switchboard first, and fit the dedicated circuit, RCD and load management properly rather than overloading the house.
Escarpment weather and outdoor wiring.
Sitting under the escarpment, Figtree cops solid rain run-off and the occasional dramatic storm rolling down off the range. That’s hard on meter boxes, outdoor power points and garden wiring, and it’s behind a fair share of our emergency callouts — water in the board, tripping circuits, storm-damaged outdoor fittings. We use weatherproof, properly rated fittings outdoors so the repair lasts.
